The world-famous choreographer returns to Plovdiv on 3 & 4 of September with one of the biggest productions in dance history.
Following the grandiose worldwide success of THE GREAT TAMER, which has toured all continents and been presented at ONE DANCE WEEK 2018, Dimitris Papaioannou’s, the star of the international dance scene, will create his largest performance to date. For the first time in our recent history, a Bulgarian cultural organization supports a world-class artist in the field of contemporary performing arts. ONE DANCE WEEK is among the prestigious list of co-producers of a large-scale project. These include the Onassis Foundation in Athens, the legendary Sadler’s Wells Theater in London, the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, the Biennale of Dance in Lyon, the Naples Festival, the Grec Festival in Barcelona, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Torinodanza and others.
The Bulgarian audience will be among the first in the world to have the opportunity to see the new work of one of the most successful and significant artists in the field of contemporary dance.
Tickets for the performanec on the 3th and 4th of September 2020 at the Boris Hristov House of Culture can now be found at EasyPay ticket offices nationwide, as well as online at EpayGo.
Last spring, more than 635 artists from around the world expressed their desire to participate in Dimitris Papaioannou’s new performance. Only 24 artists from Russia, the US, Canada, Korea, Italy, France, Bulgaria and Greece were invited to Athens. Unfortunately, less than half are invited to participate in the new performance. The premiere of Dimitris’ large-scale project will take place in May 2020 at ONASSIS STEGI in Athens.
What will be the title of Dimitris Papaioannou’s new work?
Papaioannou himself has said: “My works evolve during rehearsal, they are not composed beforehand. I prepare material only in order to kickstart the process – and most of the time, I throw it out. I’ve resolved to not know what the outcome will be ahead of time, to trust in the process. In the end, if I am lucky, the work reveals itself, and I try to understand it, to perfect it. I reserve the right to change it all at the last moment. That’s why it is difficult for me to talk to you about something before it has actually come to completion. What’s the use of plans and pretensions? Art is praxis. If I talk about it, I will only either mislead you or betray the work.”
